As subscribers who listen to the podcast know, the last two presidents were recorded in the hospital, where I was for the last 8 days (and 2 presidents). I was admitted with sepsis (just like James Garfield!) caused not by a bullet but by an infected abscess on my ovary. After being bathed in antibiotics (which poor JG did not have) for a few days, I had surgery to remove the abscess, the ovary, and other assorted bits. Yesterday I was discharged and am happily recovering at home in the Catskills.
So while I was accused of taking the presidential research a bit too far, and advised to avoid plays and Pan-American exhibitions for a while, I do fear that William Taft and Woodrow Wilson did not get as much attention from me as they deserved. But I’m back, I’m improving daily, and I plan to write the shit out of the remaining 18 presidents, because honestly, I feel like I’m just hitting my stride. So please stay with me, spread the word, and hang in there, because democracy—like surgery—is a bloody, brutal, and sometimes painful process.
